Solution

Shops and retail

See when something at the shop needs attention, even after closing – and know that everything will be in its place in the morning.

Shops and stores: a break-in, a failed fridge or a back door left open – none of them should come to light in the morning

In a shop, a break-in is not the only risk. The back door can be left open, a fridge can fail, someone can forget to arm the alarm – and after an incident it’s hard to find out what happened at the till. A good system fits your daily routine (opening, trading hours, closing), handles the roles of the owner, the shop manager and the staff separately, and gives you documented protection that matches your property insurance policy.

Sound familiar?

  • In the morning you found the back door open – the one leading to the stockroom.
  • The chiller cabinet failed over a weekend, and on Monday the stock went in the bin.
  • There’s money missing from the till, but the footage is useless.
  • Everyone knows the same alarm code – including the sales assistant who left two months ago.
  • Your insurer asked what security system is in place and whether its maintained condition can be documented.
  • In the evening, at home, you can’t see whether the shop manager has armed the alarm.

Solutions

An alarm system that fits your opening and closing routine – with insurance compliance documented

Outdoor keypad at a shop entrance

The problem Many insurance policies specifically require devices recommended by MABISZ (the Association of Hungarian Insurance Companies), a panic button, and a documented, working and maintained condition. Your current system runs on a shared code – and nobody knows when a professional last looked at it.

How do we solve it? An alarm system built from MABISZ-recommended devices and matched to the terms of your insurance, with zones that follow the layout of the shop – sales floor, stockroom, back entrance, office – glass-break detection on the shopfront and a panic button at the till. Every member of staff gets their own code; the owner sees opening and closing on their phone and gets a notification if the shop is opened at an unusual time. Regular inspections with a written report keep the system in a documented, working and maintained condition. For the panic button we recommend alarm monitoring with patrol response – a silent alarm is only worth something if someone receives it.

What you get Insurance compliance, documented – and in the evening you can see from home that the shop is armed.

Cameras at the till and the entrance – usable footage, recorded lawfully

Vivotek dome camera on the shop ceiling, overlooking the till

The problem There is a camera, but the image isn’t good enough to settle a disputed till incident or a theft.

How do we solve it? Cameras on the entrance, the till area, the routes where goods are moved and the stockroom door – wherever a legitimate security purpose justifies it. At the till, we choose the angle and resolution so that both the cash handling and the customer side can be clearly identified. Usable images even at night, with local recording. We hand the system over with privacy masking and the necessary data protection documentation; we set the retention period on the recorder, and only designated people can access the footage, with every access logged. Continuous monitoring of staff is not the aim.

What you get If there’s a dispute, you have footage – and because it was recorded lawfully, you can actually use it.

Fridges and freezers: a night watch for your stock

Tidy cold room with shelving

The problem A fridge breakdown, a freezer door left open or a power cut over the weekend can wipe out your entire stock – and only the smell gives it away.

How do we solve it? A temperature sensor in every critical fridge and freezer, with a delayed threshold – opening the door briefly doesn’t trigger an alert, but a sustained deviation does. Notifications go to the shop manager and a deputy contact, and a separate alert for power cuts arrives before the stock defrosts. The system logs the measurements, which supports your temperature records.

What you get A fridge failure comes to light that same evening, not on Monday morning.

Back door, stockroom, deliveries – so nothing is left open

Outdoor detector on a shop's glass front

The problem Nobody closes the delivery door after the supplier has left; anyone can walk into the stockroom; and a back door left open is a burglar’s easiest way in.

How do we solve it? Door contacts on the back door and the stockroom that work during opening hours too: if a door stays open longer than allowed, the shop manager gets an alert. The stockroom can also be secured with access control, so only people who have business there can get in.

What you get A back door that can’t be left open unnoticed – and a stockroom that not just anyone can walk into.

Closing routine at the press of a button – and an alert if something was missed

Alarm keypad next to the front door

The problem There’s a lot to check at closing time; if the shop manager is in a hurry, something always gets missed – and the owner can’t see any of it from home.

How do we solve it? Closing takes a single button press: the system arms the alarm, checks the doors and fridges, switches off selected appliances, turns on the shopfront lighting and the illuminated sign, then sends a summary to the owner. If arming fails or a door has been left open, it alerts you immediately. Opening works the same way in reverse: lights, heating, coffee machine.

What you get In the evening you know for sure that the shop is locked up – no need to go back and check.

Staff permissions: who can open up, who can see what, who can change settings

Entry with a staff card

The problem A shared code and a shared app account are simple in the short term, but later nobody can revoke them – so the sales assistant who left can still get in.

How do we solve it? Every member of staff gets their own code and account, tied to their role: who can open and close, who can view camera images, who can change settings, who receives technical notifications. When someone leaves, their access can be revoked with a single click.

What you get Clear responsibility – and no more “everyone knows the code”.

Water leaks, power, internet – the other silent failures

Plant room with a water shut-off valve and sensors

The problem After closing time, nobody notices a dripping sink, a tripped breaker or an internet outage – until the morning.

How do we solve it? Water sensors in the washroom and plant areas, with a motorised shut-off valve if required; alerts for power cuts and internet outages. If the internet drops out, the local hub restarts the router itself via a smart plug.

What you get Small faults don’t turn into major damage overnight.

Frequently asked questions

What does an insurer expect from a shop’s alarm system?

Many insurance policies specifically require a system made up of devices with a MABISZ product compliance recommendation: typically perimeter and interior protection, glass-break detection and a panic button, in a documented, working and maintained condition. For higher risks they also require connection to alarm monitoring, with a contractually guaranteed response time. We go through the terms of your own policy together before we give you a quote.

Can I see on my phone whether the shop manager has armed the alarm?

Yes: you get a notification on your phone about opening, closing and any failed arming. Permissions are managed person by person.

Can every member of staff view the camera footage?

That’s not advisable: we restrict access according to tasks and responsibilities, with every access logged.

Will the system definitely warn me in advance if a fridge fails?

It will alert you to temperature deviations and power cuts, but not to every kind of breakdown. Reliable alerts come from a delayed threshold and a well-placed sensor together; the system supplements the required, calibrated temperature records – it doesn’t replace them.

Can it be installed while the shop is open?

Yes. We schedule the cabling and any dusty work for after closing time, and the configuration and staff training take place during the day. Your existing system stays in operation for as long as possible during the changeover.

I have several shops – can they be managed in one system?

Yes: all your shops are visible on one interface, we manage permissions centrally, alarm and fridge events go into one log, and maintenance falls under one contract.
