An alarm system you will actually use every day

A good alarm system – officially an intruder alarm system – isn’t good because it has lots of detectors. It’s good because it detects at the right points, is clear and simple to operate, reports its own faults, and sends alerts to a person or provider who knows exactly what to do when the alarm goes off.

MindzenSmart (Mindzen Direct Kft.) is a security systems company registered with the Hungarian police (file number: 01110-822/6574-2/2026.SZv.). We survey, design and install alarm systems in Budapest and the surrounding area. We work with systems that meet the EN 50131 standard at various security grades, using wireless, wired and hybrid control panels. Every system we install can be connected to a contracted alarm monitoring service and comes with a mobile app. If you wish, we also integrate the alarm panel into a smart home system, so the automations in your property can respond to the state of the alarm and its detectors.

What problem does it solve?

A well-planned alarm system can help you:

  • detect unauthorised entry, opening or movement quickly
  • notify the right people – the owner, a security service or the monitoring centre
  • arm zones separately – for example, keeping the ground floor and the front door guarded while the family sleeps upstairs
  • pass on panic situations, smoke, gas leaks and other events
  • keep clear track of alarms and faults
  • raise the maximum insurance payout, because the burglary limit is tied to your level of protection

An alarm reduces risk and reports events, but on its own it cannot promise complete protection.

Good to know: in Hungary, only a security company registered with the police may install and maintain alarm systems as a service. With us, smart home expertise and security system installation are in one pair of hands.

You can fit a boxed DIY alarm to your own house yourself, but some insurance policies require a professional installer's handover. Connecting to alarm monitoring usually requires a documented handover too.

Who is this service for?

  • Apartment and house owners who want an app-controlled system built from MABISZ-recommended devices (MABISZ is the Association of Hungarian Insurance Companies), matched to the terms of their insurance policy – not a DIY Wi-Fi siren.
  • Offices, shops and medical practices, where the property insurance policy typically expects a documented, working and maintained system – and several policies specifically require MABISZ-recommended devices.
  • Renovators who can’t or don’t want to chase walls for cables – for them we install a wireless system, with no wall chasing.
  • Anyone who already has an alarm: in many cases we can make a working system (e.g. DSC, Paradox) app-controllable without replacing it, extending its lifespan.

Wired, wireless or hybrid?

This isn't decided by fashion, but by the site, the existing cabling, how you use the property and how easy the system will be to maintain.

Wired system

In a new build, a property under renovation or where good-quality cabling already exists, this is the most predictable foundation. There are no batteries to replace and radio interference is not an issue. In return, it takes more preparation and on-site work – in an occupied home it can rarely be done without chasing walls.

Wireless system

In an occupied or rented property with finished surfaces, it is quicker and far less intrusive: typically half a day to one working day, with no breaking into walls. You do, however, need to factor in battery life, the radio environment and periodic checks.

Hybrid system

It keeps the existing wiring and lets you expand wirelessly. When upgrading, this often strikes the best balance between reliability, disruption and cost – and it is often the answer when one part of the house is new and another is old.

If the situation isn't clear-cut, after the site survey we quote for more than one option so you can compare them.

What do we survey?

A site survey isn't just reading out a list of devices. On site, we go through the following:

  • Entrances, doors, windows and approach routes
  • Outdoor and indoor risks, hidden spots
  • Pets and daily movement patterns
  • Need for night-time or partial arming
  • Required life-safety functions, such as smoke, carbon monoxide or gas leak detection
  • Condition of the existing cabling, control panel and detectors
  • Internet and mobile network options for signal transmission
  • Users, codes and permission levels
  • Reporting of power cuts and communication faults
  • Background noise in the 868 MHz radio band on site, if a wireless system is being considered
  • The requirements of your insurance policy, if you have one
  • The needs and technical conditions for connecting to alarm monitoring

The process step by step

  1. Site survey and risk assessment: we review the doors and windows, intrusion routes and insurer requirements
  2. System proposal and fine-tuning: we define the detector layout, the positions of the control panel and sirens, and the signal transmission paths (internet, mobile network)
  3. Itemised quote: device list, labour and, where needed, subscription – with no hidden costs
  4. Installation and commissioning: we fit the detectors, control panel, keypads, outdoor and indoor sirens, then set up app access
  5. Zone setup and user training: we configure the away, night and home modes, plus user management
  6. Handover documentation: handover report, zone list and declaration of conformity – in a form you can also submit to your insurer
  7. Optional next steps: connection to alarm monitoring and a maintenance contract

Prices

The final price depends on:

  • the number of doors, windows and areas to be protected
  • life-safety add-ons
  • wired or wireless design
  • the condition of existing cabling and devices
  • communication back-ups
  • the number of keypads and users
  • integration and remote access needs
  • the required security grade
  • the expected level of documentation and maintenance
  • separate fees for optional alarm monitoring

That's why we always give a tailored quote, matched to the site and your actual needs.

For guidance, we show a few sample configurations below; these do not constitute a quote.

What does your insurer expect – and what do you gain?

Hungarian home insurance policies don’t look at the price tag of your alarm, but at what the system was capable of at the moment of the loss. The maximum payout for burglary is tied to the level of protection that was in place and in operation at the time of the loss – and better protection can multiply that limit several times over.

Two things raise this level. The first is mechanical protection – locks, doors, windows, bars – which most people underestimate: even with a good alarm, there is no payout if the minimum mechanical protection isn’t met. Some policies assess this at the point of entry, others across the whole property. The second is the electronic alarm system, and within that, the biggest step up is connection to alarm monitoring. Several policies double the limit if the alarm is monitored, and some don’t count an unmonitored alarm towards the protection level at all.

Several insurers explicitly require in their policy terms that the alarm components carry a MABISZ product conformity recommendation. The MABISZ recommendation is voluntary: the manufacturer or distributor applies and pays for it, and it is valid for five years. It is not an official requirement and is not the same as the EN 50131 Grade classification; it matters where your insurance terms specifically require it.

That’s why during the site survey we look at the relevant part of your insurance policy and put the system together to match it. If your terms require MABISZ-recommended devices, those are what we use; if they don’t, we won’t make you pay for something that doesn’t count in your case. We hand over the documentation – system description, device list, zone list, declaration of conformity, handover report – in a form you can submit directly to your insurer. We also cover the insurance and protection aspects in our article on wired, wireless and hybrid alarms.

Which brands do we work with – and why?

With wireless systems, the radio environment is part of the job: detectors, Z-Wave devices and some gate openers all operate in the same 868 MHz band. That's why we install two-way, encrypted radio systems protected by jamming detection (with frequency hopping where available), and during the site survey we measure the background noise in that band on site.

The Jeweller radio protocol is encrypted and two-way, and protects against sabotage with jamming detection; the detectors run on batteries for years. It can be installed without breaking into walls, which makes it a particularly good choice for renovated apartments and rented offices. It is Grade 2 certified, and signal transmission can run over IP and the mobile network in parallel.

Wired and hybrid systems. We recommend PERFECTA panels for smaller sites and the INTEGRA series for medium and large ones. The Polish manufacturer offers excellent value for money; the INTEGRA panel integrates fully with smart home platforms, so the alarm's detectors can also drive automations.

A fully wireless system family from the Polish manufacturer Satel, built on ABAX 2 two-way radio technology. It provides an alarm and basic home automation in a single system: the same detectors serve both security and comfort functions. It can be installed without breaking into walls and is controlled from an app.

An Italian hybrid system: the alarm and the cameras can be managed from a single app, and alarms can be verified with video. We explain how the alarm and the cameras can work together on our [Alarm system with cameras](/en/services/alarm-with-cameras) page.

A Czech hybrid system that can be built with both wired and wireless detectors. Its keypad is easy to learn. It allows flexible system design for upgrades and new installations alike.

Wired and hybrid alarm systems for apartments, family houses and smaller commercial premises. We also service and expand existing Paradox panels, connect them to alarm monitoring and, where compatible, add modern communication.

Professional wired and hybrid systems with flexible zone management. We use them in family houses, offices and commercial premises, both for new installations and for expanding and upgrading existing systems.

DSC and Honeywell Galaxy

These systems run in a large share of Hungarian homes and offices. We service and expand them, connect them to alarm monitoring and, where possible, make them smart as well.

An alarm that also controls your smart home

With an integrated design, the alarm’s motion and opening detectors can also act as inputs for the smart home. When you arm the alarm, the system switches to “away” mode: the heating goes into economy mode, the lights switch off, and the garden security camera starts monitoring its area.

The link works the other way too: an AI camera facing the garden can itself act as a detector for the alarm, so the alert is triggered right at the property boundary – we explain this in detail on our Alarm system with cameras page.

If you'd also like alarm monitoring

Alarm monitoring is a separate service agreement: you can sign a contract with the monitoring centre through us, and we prepare and connect the technical side, then maintain it going forward.

It's worth clarifying the following about the service:

  • whom the monitoring centre should notify when an alarm is triggered, and from whom it should expect confirmation if the alarm is false
  • what action should be taken: automatic dispatch of a response team – which we recommend – or dispatch only on request by phone
  • the guaranteed response time; with the services we recommend, this is typically 15 minutes
  • how much the service costs and what minimum contract term applies
  • how the response team gets into the property, and whether they receive a key

Signals are transmitted to the monitoring centre over the mobile network (2G/4G), the internet or both. Where the panel supports the SIA DC-09 protocol, the brand doesn't tie you to any particular monitoring provider; elsewhere we install the provider's own transmitter.

Frequently asked questions

How much does an alarm system cost?

In a smaller apartment, a wireless alarm starts from around HUF 200,000 gross, including installation; the sample configurations above show the typical ranges. The exact price depends on the site, the number of detectors and the extras you choose (alarm monitoring, cameras, smart home connection) – after the site survey we give you an itemised quote.

Will my insurer accept a wireless alarm?

Policy terms treat wireless and wired systems the same way – it isn’t the cable that decides, but whether the system meets the requirements set out in your policy and whether it was in operation at the moment of the loss. If your terms require devices with a MABISZ product conformity recommendation, we clarify this during the site survey and build the system accordingly. The handover documentation contains all the information your insurer may ask for.

Can the existing cabling be kept?

Often yes, but only after measurement and a condition check: a cable being there doesn’t mean every point is usable. We check this during the site survey – and this is often exactly why a hybrid design is a good choice.

How long does installation take?

For a wireless system in an apartment, usually half a day to one working day. A wired system in a family house or shop takes two to three working days, depending on the cabling required. The exact schedule is set out in the quote.

Does the alarm work during a power cut or internet outage?

The control panel runs on a back-up battery. The minimum under the EN 50131-6 standard – if the system reports the loss of mains power – is 12 hours, but insurance terms typically expect more: several policies require the whole system to run for at least 48 hours and then still complete one alarm cycle. Where your terms require this, we size the back-up accordingly; with a wireless panel this usually needs an additional power supply unit. Signals are transmitted over the mobile network as well as the IP connection, so the alert still gets through if the internet goes down.

What happens when the alarm goes off?

You get a notification in the app, the siren sounds, and if you are connected to alarm monitoring, the monitoring centre acts according to the agreed protocol – dispatching a response team if necessary.

Can I control it from my phone?

Our systems support mobile control. It is worth clarifying, however, how much the manufacturer’s app depends on the manufacturer’s cloud and whether a subscription fee is required. We discuss this when choosing the system.

Does an alarm need maintenance?

Yes. Home insurance terms don’t prescribe how often the system must be inspected; instead they require the equipment to be in proper working order, fit for purpose, at the time of the loss – and several policies explicitly mention the maintenance of security equipment as part of your duty to prevent losses. A documented annual inspection records exactly this. Business property insurance typically expects a documented, working and maintained system. Monitoring contracts often require maintenance too.

Won’t my pet set off the alarm?

With pet-tolerant motion detectors and careful detector placement, smaller pets typically don’t cause false alarms. However, if your cat also climbs onto furniture or shelves, this needs to be allowed for when placing the detectors – we discuss this during the site survey.

What is a dual-technology motion detector?

It uses two different detection principles, typically passive infrared (PIR) and microwave (MW) detection. An alarm is usually only triggered when both detect movement, so the chance of false alarms can be lower with draughts, temperature fluctuations or other disturbances. It can be particularly worthwhile near a fireplace or warm-air heating, and at some outdoor locations.

What is a motion detector with a built-in camera?

It’s a motion detector that can take one or more verification photos when triggered and send them to the app or to the monitoring centre. This helps you quickly judge whether it’s a real event or a false alarm. It isn’t a continuous surveillance camera and doesn’t replace a separate camera system; the available functions depend on the model you choose and its settings.

Can the camera itself be the alarm detector?

Yes, this is a separate approach: the AI camera recognises when a person steps into the garden. The alarm panel handles this just like a signal from any motion detector. This way, protection starts at the property boundary, not at the doors and windows. We have a dedicated page on this: Alarm system with cameras.
